Blackout is a 8 month long passion project for VRChat.
Over 800 hours of work went into creating her.
The goal of this avatar was to push the limits of what i believed was possible for an avatar, and to inspire others to aim high in their own creative pursuits.
The clothing, weapons, bike, unity work, was all done/made by me.
Blackout's Bike Features
Follower mode: The bike will follow you around staying on the ground like a bike should
Park: Using blackout screen on her arm, you can put the bike into park so its no longer following you
Ride mode: In half body VR and desktop you can ride the bike, locking your legs into an animation to make it look like you're actually riding it.
Call bike in/out: Using blackouts screen again, you can call the bike in, or make it drive away.
Tires move forward and backwards, and faster/slower, based on your avatars locomotion.
Fully setup with different sounds to make the bike feel even more real.
Blackout's Katana Features
Throw mode: Use world physics to throw the katana forward, it will go until it hits a surface or another person in the instance.
Realistic Animations: The katana has many different animations, including tossing the katana into a backhand grip, spinning, and dropping the katanas to unequip.
VFX: Sparks fly out when colliding with a wall, blood effects fly out when colliding with a person.
Sound FX: Immersive sounds when doing most movements with the katanas to make them feel more real.
Blackout's Pistol Features
Fully interactable reload: Fully realistic and interactable reload, pulling the mag out, pushing a new one in, pulling the slide back.
World Physics: The pistol and empty magazines can be dropped into the world.
VFX and SoundFX, Sounds for every step of the reload process, shooting silenced and unsilenced, shooting causes a muzzle flash and smoke.
Ammo counter: Counter on the side of the weapon that tells you how many bullets are left.
Blackout's Grenade Features
Throw grenade: Toss blackouts grenade with world physics, it will flash for a bit before exploding
Spin Grenade: Spin the grenade on your finger.
Toss grenade: toss the grenade from hand to hand
VFX and Sound FX, exploding effect, sounds for throwing,spinning, and exploding.
Dedication to making an optimized product. (for nerds)
This avatar is marked as "very poor" but that does not mean the avatar isn't optimized for size of the project.
Atlasing, RGBA texture packing, lowering uneeded texture resolution, was all done in order to lower mat count and texture memory.
UV tile discard was used to lower mesh/skin mesh count, that also lowers the amount of materials needed.
High poly baking was used to give high detail meshes, without the need for high poly meshes.
Direct Blend trees were used to lower the amount of animator layers, and reduce the effect they have on performance.
